Absolut Seelster jumped up the class ladder Thursday evening at Flamboro Downs, but it didn’t stop the Ben Baillargeon trainee from posting her second win in a row.
After a 1:55.1 win in front-stepping fashion in the Preferred 3 at the half-miler last week, Absolut Seelster used come-from-behind tactics to win Thursday’s $11,500 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap in 1:57.4 for driver Scott Coulter.
The mare got away third from Post 7 while race favourite Majestic Kat shot to the top and served up fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:28.1. Absolut Seelster shook loose late and kicked home in :28.4 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Its Huw You Know. Majestic Kat faded to finish third.
Tom and Elizabeth Rankin of St. Catharines, Ont. own the 19-time winner who now owns a 7-3-2 record from 26 starts this season. The victory pushed her lifetime earnings over $175,000.
