Melissas Fancy may have used a different tactic, but the result was the same Tuesday by capturing a repeat win in the $22,500 Mares Open at Harrington Raceway
.
The five-year-old Blissfull Hall mare sat in the back of the pack most of the mile while pacesetter Docdor Libby set a fairly hot pace of 27, 56.2 and 1:24.4. Driver Tim Curtin and Melissas Fancy launched their assault fanning wide at the top of the stretch and catapulting to the front for a 12-to-1 win over VC Atom N. Chausettes Blanche and No Bad Luck were in a dead heat for third. It was the second straight triumph in the class for the distaffer.
Trained by Eddie Dennis for owners Melissas Fancy LP, the mare earned her fourth win of the year and 11th in her career.
Meanwhile, driver Jon Roberts had the hot hand with six driving wins. Roberts started the win parade in the third with Dutch’s Gal ($6.20) before winning the fifth with Kellytuck Sophie ($14.60), race seven with Strathcarn ($10.60), and eighth with Cookie Money ($4). Roberts then took the final two races with Little Bit Tricky ($4.60) and Real Tough ($16.60).
