Sweet Molly was all class in the Thursday, Oct. 30 conditioned feature for pacing fillies and mares at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Sweet Molly ($2.70) sat the pocket in the $4,150 event behind pacesetter Redland Misspretty (Paul Langille) through splits of :27.2, :55.1, and 1:25 before firing late to win by 1-1/2 lengths in a career-best 1:54.2 for trainer-driver David Dowling. My Happy Place (Gilles Barrieau) came from last to finish second with Galway Girl (Marc Campbell) completing the triactor. Dowling co-owns the winning mare with Clair Murphy of Millvale, P.E.I., Derrill Murphy of Lethbridge, Alta., and Cindy MacLean of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The four-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou-Cheyenne Molly is now 10-for-65 lifetime with $150,210 in earnings.
Rocket Blast ($2.10) put on a trotting clinic earlier on the card, dominating the third race by 5-3/4 lengths in 1:57.3 for owner Carl Bagnall of Stratford, P.E.I. and trainer-driver Corey MacPherson. The four-year-old son of E L Rocket-Rich Dreams rolled through fractions of :28.4, :59.1, and 1:29.2, then blasted home in :28.1 to win the $3,700 conditioned event. Hallofaride (Ryan Desroche) was second, followed by Majian Salsa (Jim Ripley).
The MacPherson stable doubled as the Cornwall, P.E.I.-based driver stick-handled Rosetown Mary ($2.30) to victory in 1:56 in the 12th-race finale.
The night's biggest upset came in the ninth-race “Brown Wedding November 1, 2025” pace when Promise Me Later ($22.20) blasted off the wings and never looked back in 1:55.1 for trainer-driver Dowling. She fended off odds-on favourite Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes) by a half-length. Ms Moyse (Corey MacPherson) was third.
Moon Bound ($2.10) went down the road in Race 10, pacing away in 1:56.3 as part of a driving triple for Dowling, this time from the Jennifer Doyle barn.
