Harvest Series Finals Contested At Mohawk

Two-year-old fillies were in the spotlight Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park as the oval hosted a set of Harvest Series Finals – one for pacers and the other for trotters.

Enola turned a two-hole trip into an upset score in the $43,000 final for trotters.

On top through an opening quarter of :29, Enola then took a backseat to race favourite Miss Expo who blasted from fourth to first.  Miss Expo sliced out middle splits of :59 and 1:29, but the 1-5 favourite couldn’t go the distance.  Enola angled out of the two-hole late and fired home in :29.2 to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Miss Expo in 1:58.4.  Home From Away was third.

It was the third win of the season for Enola, who improved her seasonal record to 3-4-2 from 12 starts with the triumph.  Bob McClure mapped out the winning trip for the daughter of Resolve-Deweys Katie, who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Keith Jones.  Douglas McCarthy of Holland Landing, Ont. owns the career winner of $64,876.

Talk Curdy To Me was a beaten favourite in last week’s second leg of the series for pacing fillies, but she bounced back to post a solid score in the $47,800 final.

The Chantal Mitchell got away fifth for driver James MacDonald while Sunny Dreams (:27.3) and Sis (:56.3 and 1:25.3) took turns on the lead.  Talk Curdy To Me rallied home in :27.4 and that was enough to propel her to the one-length triumph over Charming Vixen in 1:53.4.  Twin B Echo was fourth-placed-third.

The daughter of Betterthancheddar-Keepers Destiny improved her rookie record to 4-1-0 from six starts with the win.  She’s now banked $54,010 for 9261-7620 Quebec Inc and Mitchell Di Cenzo.

On the undercard, Resolute Bay extended his winning streak to six-in-a-row thanks to a 1:54.4 triumph in a $23,000 conditioned event.

James MacDonald rallied the Harry Poulton trainee to the 1:54.4 decision over race favourite Midnight Miracle and Rowlen.

Thestable Resolute Bay of Guelph, Ont. owns the three-year-old son of Resolve-Tequila Slammer who improved his 2022 record to 7-1-3 from 18 starts with the victory.  The nine-time winner has banked over $125,000 to date.

It was one of three wins on the card for trainer Harry Poulton, who also clicked with How The Hell (1:55.3) and Locatelli (1:53.2).
