Dave Kelly, who is currently ranked third in driving wins in Alberta, will join Mike Hennessy as one of two drivers representing the Western Region in the National Driving Championship (NDC) on Nov. 24 at Century Mile.

Kelly will replace Rod Therres, who will not compete in the event.

The Western Regional Driving Championship, held at Century Downs on Sunday, June 19, was won by Hennessy of Alberta, who accumulated 62 points. Kelly was one of three drivers each with 45 points in the event.

"The coolest thing you can do is get to represent your country. No matter what sport you are a part of, that’s the pinnacle of your career,” said Kelly. “Getting the chance to compete to wear the red and white has me pretty excited.”

The National Driving Championship is a Standardbred Canada event, hosted in 2022 by Century Mile in Edmonton, Alta.  Eight drivers from across the country will compete for an opportunity to represent Canada in the 2023 World Driving Championship in Germany.

The full list of drivers in the event are as follows:

  • Gilles Barrieau (Atlantic)
  • Marc Campbell (Atlantic)
  • Pascal Berube (Quebec/Eastern Ontario)
  • Samuel Fillion (Quebec/Eastern Ontario)
  • Doug McNair (Ontario)
  • Louis-Philippe Roy (Ontario)
