Odds-on favourite Graceful Horizon sat a pocket trip before pouncing to a widening victory in the $8,100 top class at Century Downs on Sunday (Oct. 31).
Driver Kelly Hoerdt settled the three-year-old Vertical Horizon filly behind pacesetter Glimpseofgoodness to a :28.1 first quarter and stayed put through middle fractions of :57.4 and 1:25.1. Hoerdt began to angle Graceful Horizon from the cat-bird seat off the final turn and, with ease, put away Glimpseofgoodness while striding to a 3-1/2-length victory in 1:54. Burning Hot rallied from last to take second from Glimpseofgoodness while Outlawstormywether gave chase in fourth.
Co-owned by trainer Chris Lancaster with Derek Gilbert and Velda Olding, Graceful Horizon won her eighth race from 13 starts this season and her 11th from 17 overall, pushing her earnings to $141,807. She paid $3 to win.
