Lit De Rose Best In Preferred

A field of seven originally slated for the $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace was reduced to a field of five, and that certainly didn't hurt the chances of Lit De Rose.

Originally saddled with post seven, a pair of scratches pulled Lit De Rose into post five -- the second best starting spot for pacers at the Campbellville oval. Driver Sylvain Filion only had four fabulous mares to outsprint for the lead, and Lit De Rose was able to handle that request with a :26.4 opening quarter. With no challengers, Filion stole a soft middle half through fractions of :55.4 and 1:25.2 before sprinting home in :26.3 to hold off pocket sitter Gias Surreal (Trevor Henry) by more than a length in 1:52. Ivana Flybye N (James MacDonald) and Parisian Blue Chip (Doug McNair) finished in a dead heat for show.

A homebred owned by Guy Corbeil of Mirael, Que., five-year-old Lit De Rose (Leader Bayama - Intense) picked up her sixth win of the season and 18th lifetime from 52 starts. The winner's share of the purse puts her over the quarter-million dollar mark in purses with $258,122 earned.
