Driver Ryan Ellis and trainer George Rennison combined forces to win the final half of Sunday's (October 30) harness racing card at Truro Raceway.
Before the Rennison trainees streaked to four straight victories to close out the eight-race Sunday program, Ellis got into his winning groove steering Sestina ($3.10) to a neck victory in the afternoon's second race for trainer Rhea Chase.
Ellis and Rennison teamed up for their first win together with Grins Little Flirt ($3.20), who prevailed by a head over My Ideal Hanover and Walter Walker for her fourth straight victory this month. The duo also scored with Our Star ($6.20) in a sixth race dead-heat with Fedora ($5.80) and Danny Romo. Distinctiv Rusty ($10) then won the afternoon's $1,475 top class in 2:00.2 by half a length over His Boy Elroy and Bernard McCallum and then P H Showboat ($6.20) took the finale by more than two lengths in his first start from the Rennison stable.
Rennison currently tops the Truro trainer standings with 30 wins in 2016, while Ellis moved out of a tie with Todd Trites for sole ownership of second-place in the driver standings. Ellis now has 24 victories on the season, trailing leader Darren Crowe by 10 wins.
