Princesse Dorleans delivered on her pari-mutuel promise with a wire-to-wire winning effort in the $26,400 Late Bloomer Series Final Saturday night at Sudbury Downs
. The series is for non-winners of one race or $15,000 (f/m $20,000) lifetime as of Sept. 24, 2011.
Entering the final having won her first and third leg divisions of the series, the three-year-old daughter of Shanghai Phil and Legende Dorleans was deemed the 3-2 favourite in the field of nine by onlookers. With David Dowling in the sulky, she blasted to command from Post 3 and carved out fractions of :27.4, :59, and 1:29 en route to a two length triumph in 1:58.1.
Bound By Force (Paul MacLean) finished second off a pocket trip and Passionate Terror (Mario Rivest) followed in third. Justaminit Hanover (Jeff Nowoselsky) advanced first over from fourth, but only made it within a length of the lead before fading to fourth, five and a quarter lengths behind the winner. Flojo Copperstone (Gerry Belanger) earned the final paycheque in fifth.
Princesse Dorleans paid $5.10 to win. Yvon Lamoureux trains the chestnut filly for Gestion C Levesque 2005inc of Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Que. The win was her fourth in 16 starts this year and fifth lifetime, pushing her bankroll to over $40,000.
