Former $10,000 claiming mare Jennas Pass extended her win streak to eight with a wire-to-wire 1:54.1 triumph over the sloppy Fraser Downs racetrack on Sunday afternoon in the $35,000 Miss Cloverdale for Open mares
.
Leaving from post position two in the eight-horse field, Jennas Pass and driver Gord Abbott fired off the gate with Red Star Dana (Serge Masse) leaving from Post 5 and stepping up alongside the five-year-old mare. However, Jennas Pass stuffed Red Star Dana into the gapping pocket as she sprinted to the opening quarter in a sizzling :26.3. The daughter of Freedoms Pass-Presidential Jenna took a breather to the half in :56.2 and then picked up the pace once again en route to three-quarters in 1:24.3 before cruising to the wire in 1:54.1. The winning margin was three-quarters of a length as Jans Rich Girl (Scott Knight) rallied into second, edging out Red Star Dana.
Jennas Pass paid $3.60 to win as the odds-on favourite. Trainer Keith Clark and Alberta's Verne Rea and Macpherson Standardbreds claimed the mare for $12,500 on August 26 at Alberta Downs off a three-race win streak and she has since jumped to the Open level and added five more wins to her streak for her new connections.
The win marked the 10th time this year in 19 tries that Jennas Pass has made the trip to the winner's circle. Her earnings climbed to $54,910 for 2011 and $172,974 lifetime.
The Miss Cloverdale victory capped off a fantastic stakes Sunday for Clark, whose freshman pacing fillies swept both divisions of the Premiers Filly Pace at Northlands Park in Edmonton, Alta.
Clark trainee Clintons Escape and driver Tim Brown also won the $12,500 Open Pace in 1:54.1 on Sunday at Fraser Downs in front end fashion. Cash Account (Carl Sibiga) and At Last (Kevin Anderson) followed in second and third. Clark also owns the four-year-old Clintons Cigar-Emotionaliscape gelding with Allan Neurauter of High River, Alta.
