While the horse capturing the Saturday (Oct. 3) feature at Exhibition Park Raceway is no stranger to the winner's circle as of late, the winning driver was returning to victory lane for the first time in more than three years.
Union Man Hanover was a wire-to-wire winner in the $1,500 Winners Over feature, repelling all rivals to trip the timer in 2:01.2. Bugger Max and JJ Breanne completed the top three.
Sam Hodgin engineered the winning trip for his first win since guiding pacer Best Escape Route to victory in September 2017.
Now a winner of five races from 16 seasonal starts, Union Man Hanover sports 53 wins lifetime and more than $445,000. The 11-year-old Artiscape - Up Front Rose entire is trained and owned Robert MacNeil of Saint John, N.B.
Earlier on the card, three-year-old pacing filly Whiskey To Wine erased one of the longest standing track records in Canada when her lifetime best 1:58 wire-to-wire score shaved a tick off the existing standard of J K Beauty set in 1990.
Mike Downey guided Whiskey To Wine (Royal Mattjesty - Slim N Sleek) to victory, her second of the season and fifth lifetime, for trainer Ellen Stevenson and owner Dr. Mitch Downey of Saint John, N.B.
