Pine Dream benefitted from a ‘dream’ trip in Thursday night’s $16,500 Open Handicap Trot at Hollywood Dayton Raceway, resulting in a mild upset victory over I Know My Chip.
Driver Dan Noble kept Pine Dream nose-to-helmet behind the 4-5 favourite through modest :28.1, :58 and 1:26.1 fractions before angling off the pylons an eighth of a mile from the finish line and collaring I Know My Chip with less than 100 yards to go.
Northmedo Mission hugged the pylons throughout the mile as well and finished third.
The winner, a seven-year-old son of Pinetucky, paid $10.20 on the occasion of his eighth seasonal win, raising his year to date earnings to over $130,000. Merv Chupp conditions the 33-time career winner for Chupp Racing Stable Inc, which includes his wife Kelly who was celebrating a birthday.
