Countess Stormont Outshines Rivals

Countess Stormont shot to the front of the field in the early going and remained a strong leader all the way to the wire in the $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot featured on Saturday night at Georgian Downs

Driver Jonathan Drury and Countess Stormont blasted to an early two-length lead from Post 5 and raced to the opening quarter in :28.3 and half in :59.1. The 2-1 second choice established a three and a half length lead on the field as she plowed past three-quarters in 1:27.3 and turned for home. As she tripped the teletimer in 1:56.3 Countess Stormont’s lead was only slightly reduced to two and three-quarter lengths.

Jtlady Strong (John Kovacs) pocketed the runner-up’s share of the purse and Flora Dream (Scott Coulter) rallied from fifth to grab third money.

Norman Jones trains the homebred Kadabra-Lady Orbitex mare for Stormont Meadows of Long Sault, Ont. The win marked her eighth of the season in 28 starts bumping her earnings to $117,969. The four-year-old trotter now boasts 13 victories on her lifetime record with $255,064 in winnings.
