The 2023 racing season came to a close on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 29) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with the program featuring Rollwithhottytoddy giving driver Adam Merner one of his five winners.
The Trevor Hicken-trained Rollwithhottytoddy settled away fourth in the featured $3,500 Preferred Handicap Pace and circled up from the back to nail pacesetter Sauble Attack (Brodie MacPhee) in 1:55.2. Frontier Cruiser (Brady Sweet) was third. Hicken also holds the ownership papers of the four-year-old son of Rollwithitharry.
Merner opened and closed the program out reining Melissa Rennie trainees to victory as race one went to Beers On Me (2:05) in a maiden-breaking score and the race 14 finale was a front-end victory by Impeccable Shadow (1:56.2) to double up the trainer. Merner also won with Silver Spirit (1:57.1) for trainer Devon Wallace and Azure Beach (1:59.4) as part of a five-win day for Merner to go with his two seconds and two thirds for a perfect top-three percentage from nine drives.
Driver David Dowling steered four horses to victory on the final day of racing, winning with One Rock (1:59) for trainer Nick Oakes, No Fool Mackinley (1:58.2) from the Garth Cole barn, Shesrockandfame (2:00.1) for trainer Mike Dowling and Youremyhearthrob (1:59.2) from his own stable.
The Red Shores Summerside season closed with Earl Watts garnering the training title with 18 winners ahead of Kyle Williams, who was tied with David Dowling in second place. Corey MacPherson, who headlined the Truro Raceway stakes-filled season finale over in Nova Scotia on Sunday, was the top driver of the Summerside meet with 61 wins on the year with Dowling sitting second.
Live harness racing continues on P.E.I. with Red Shores Charlottetown holding a Thursday evening program with a 6 p.m. starting post.
