The public choices prevailed in the $8,100 Preferred events on the Sunday, Oct. 28 card at Rideau Carleton with Flying Isa N taking the trot and Doctor Royal the pace.
With a first-over move towards the lead, Flying Isa N powered past pacesetter and stablemate Talbotcreek Suzie to win in 1:57.4.
Driver Stephane Brosseau positioned the Yves Tessier-trained 10-year-old fifth to a :28.1 quarter before tipping first over heading to a :58.4 half. Flying Isa N drew to within a length of the lead moving past three-quarters in 1:28 and stalled a touch turning into the stretch. However the gelded son of Pegasus Spur eventually edged to a three-quarter length lead at the wire to put away Talbotcreek Suzie. Second-over Collector Classic finished four lengths behind in third.
Owned by Francois Morin, Flying Isa N won his ninth race from 32 starts this season and his 35th from 131 overall, earning $531,901. He paid $5.40 to win.
Doctor Royal won his fourth-consecutive Preferred with an off-cover surge to win by a half length in 1:55.2.
The six-year-old gelding by Royal Mattjesty sat fifth as Racing For Space pushed for the lead from the rail and led past the quarter in :27.2. Maintaining his speed through the half in :55.4, Doctor Royal mounted his bid as he caught cover from Silverado pulling pocket after the faltering leader.
Silverado slid to the lead heading to a 1:25 third-quarter with Stonebridge Beach pulling to be second over while Doctor Royal sat third over three lengths away. Trainer-driver Marie Claude Auger vaulted Doctor Royal wide and to the lead entering the stretch as the odds-on favourite held off a late bid from Machin A Trick to win. Silverado finished three-and-a-half lengths back in third.
Owned by Auger and 2273824146, Doctor Royal won his 10th race in 30 starts this season and his 14th in 45 overall, earning $75,284. He paid $3.80 to win.
Trainer Gerard Demers collected a natural hat trick when winning the second, third and fourth races on the card. Waltzking Hanover ($6.60) ground first over to win a $6,000 claiming pace by a neck in 1:57.2, Rebel Child ($24.20) upset a $5,500 claiming pace by a half-length in 1:57.4 and Hp Patriote ($12.30) swept first over to take a $6,900 conditioned pace by two lengths in 1:56.1.
