World Champion Bolt The Duer, who won the 2012 Delvin Miller Adios but slumped recently, roared back Monday at The Meadows by capturing the $22,500 Preferred Handicap Pace from well back.

Bolt The Duer’s 1:47.4 winning mile in the Adios is the fastest ever on a five-eighths-mile track, and he subsequently burnished his credentials by taking his second straight Kentucky Sires Stakes championship. But he finished sixth and twelfth in two Grand Circuit events at the Red Mile, prompting trainer Peter Foley to add Lasix.

The result was dramatic, as the son of Ponder-Wonderbolt erased a six-length deficit over a sloppy surface for Mike Wilder and scored in 1:52.3, with a :54.4 back half. Early leader Something For Doc was second by 1-1/4 lengths, with Schoolkids third. All Star Racing owns Bolt The Duer, who now boasts $828,153 in career earnings.

Aaron Merriman, Dave Palone and Wilder each drove three winners on the 16-race card.
