Just Fiction kept her record in mint condition with a victory in the second leg of the BC Breeders Stake held on Friday night at Fraser Downs

In the first of two $10,000 divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies, Just Fiction and trainer-driver Ed Hensley left from Post 5 and cruised through fractions of :28.1, :59.1, 1:28.1. She kicked away by four lengths in the stretch but Anjelles Aura (Keith Clark), the other first leg winner, narrowed that margin to one and a half lengths by the time she hit the wire in 1:56.2. Cristina Lake (Jim Marino) finished third.
Just Fiction paid $3.10 to win as the 1-2 favourite. The homebred Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover filly is now five-for-five in her career with $29,400 banked for the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. and Alan Anderson of Willows, California.
Driven by Tim Brown, Red Star Hannah earned the first victory of her five-race career in the other filly division. After battling back and forth with the popular Bianca (Kevin Anderson) through fractions of :28.4, :57.4 and 1:26.3, the daughter of As Promised-Red Star Allie kicked away by four lengths to win in 1:56.3. Bianca held off Strange Desire (Mike Hennessy) for second.
Red Star Hannah paid $16.10 for the 7-1 upset. The Ray Gemmill trainee is owned by the Western Pacific Stable and Ian Moyes of Surrey and Steve Shand of Port Coquitlam, B.C. The lion’s share of the purse pushed her earnings to $7,500.
Boom Shazam kicked off the second leg of the BC Breeders Stake for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings with a life’s-best 1:56.4 victory for teamster Keith Clark and trainer Justin Currie. The homebred son of Badlands Hanover-Livinforthemoment rallied from last to first with a :28.4 final frame to win by three and a half lengths. Branding Party (Jim Marino) came on for second over first leg winner Midnite In La (Ed Hensley) and pacesetter Just Ryan (Mike Hennessy), who carved out fractions of :28, :58 and 1:27.1.
Boom Shazam paid $4.80 to win as the 3-2 second choice. He is now two-for-four with $9,856 earned for Justin Currie and co-owner Susan Currie of Surrey, B.C.
Gramrun Jake and driver Tim Brown left from Post 3 and showed the way past panels of :27.3, :57.4 and 1:26.1 en route to a career-best 1:56.2 victory - his second in a row - in the other colt division. Red Star Chuckles (Jim Marino) finished one and three-quarter lengths behind off a pocket trip with Crown Isle (Carl Sibiga) third.
Gramrun Jake paid $3.80 to win as the popular choice. Dan Ingram trains and owns the Camcracker-Roxette Hanover, who now sports two wins and two seconds on his five-race record and $19,054 in earnings.
In regular racing action, Red Star Paylater shaved one-fifth of a second off Duca's track record for aged pacing geldings in his eighth race claiming assignment for Hensley and the J J J Stables. The six-year-old gelded son of Bilateral-Payables won by 12 lengths in 1:51.3. The win was his seventh in 30 starts this year and pushed his seasonal earnings over $50,000.
