Power And Grace was heavily favoured in her quest to double up in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, but veteran campaigner Wild And Crazy Guy rained on her parade.
Wild And Crazy Guy rallied first over for trainer/driver Martin Lachance and battled for a half-length triumph in the featured affair.
The eventual winner dropped into an early five-hole position while Sicario sped to the top and sliced out fractions of :28.3, :58 and 1:26.4. Power And Grace enjoyed the pocket trip throughout, but it was Wild And Crazy Guy who chipped away from first over and then used a :29.1 closing quarter to defeat Power And Grace in 1:56.3. Sicario faded late and wound up settling for third prize.
Sent off at odds of 5-1, the 10-year-old son of Crazed-My Babys Momma nabbed his sixth win of the season – and the 48th of his career – for partners Jean Brunet and Ted Gewertz. The gelding pushed his lifetime earnings to $663,614.
