Peter, Curtis and Amy Clements' Cool Princess ($10.10) launched to the lead from the pocket en route to a 2:01 score the $23,200 culmination of the Autumn Series for Ontario-sired trotting fillies, which took place Wednesday night (Oct. 28) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
The sophomore daughter of Royalty For Life and Canada Cool enjoyed a comfortable pocket ride behind prohibitive 1-9 favourite Lass Shot (Scott Young) through fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:29 before making her move on the final turn. When trainer-driver Curtis Clements angled Cool Princess off the pegs with three-sixteenths remaining in the one-mile race, she accelerated immediately and stuck a head in front of Lass Shot just upon cornering for home.
Cool Princess began to work clear before Lass Shot broke stride in mid-stretch, and she accelerated just enough to evade the late challenge of 49-1 outsider Time After Time (Gord McKnight) by three-quarters of a length. Stonebridge Sydney (Eddie Green) finished third, another 3-1/2 lengths behind.
Cool Princess has made up for lost time pretty well, amassing five wins in eight starts this year after not competing as a two-year-old.
The sub-featured $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot saw Majestic Brayden ($5.20) live up to favoured billing with a pillar-to-post, 1:59 score over Venus Duharas and Cheatalotpov. Daryl Thiessen drove the six-year-old son of Majestic Son to the 20th victory of his career for trainer Carmen Auciello and the partnership of Steve Mihalic and Shawn Gillespie.
