A subpar performance by Surrealist was music to the ears of his foes in Saturday's feature at Northside Downs.
With the provincial kingpin assigned the outside post in the $1,200 Winners Over feature, Southwind Ricardo and driver Red Doucet played a strong game of catch-me-if-you-can. Leaving from Post 2, Southwind Ricardo cut out all the fractions of :29.3, :59.3 and 1:29.1 before punctuating the mile with a :29.4 closer to trip the timer in 1:59. Burn Em Up Burr (Gerard Kennedy) was two lengths in arrears after testing the pacesetter first-over with pocket-sitting Fleetwood Cam (Mark Pezzarello) another half-length back in third. Surrealist was favoured and finished a non-factor in fifth.
Ron Seymour Jr. trains four-year-old Southwind Ricardo (Dragon Again - Southwind Rio) and co-owns the 11-time winner with Joel Le Blanc of Victoria Mines, N.S.
