A report by courier-journal.com states that a debate within the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission took place yesterday, as the topic of shutting wagering off before horses leave the gate proved to be a somewhat passionate issue
.
“It’s the right thing to do, but tracks are going to suffer,” commissioner Tom Ludt was quoted as saying. Ludt heads the committee which came up with the recommendation.
Bob Beck, chair of the KHRC, suggested that a public hearing be held to address the issue prior to when the full commission considers the issue on December 1.
According to proponents, cutting off betting when the tote board hits zero minutes to post would improve the integrity of the wagering pools by helping reduce shifts in odds or bets being taken after a race begins.
