Standardbred Canada, Ontario Horse Racing, Seelster Farm, Tara Hills Stud, Winbak Farm, Glengate Farm and Landmark 17 are pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 ‘Win a Share in a Racehorse’ contest. Congratulations Susanne French!
During the evening of Saturday, Oct. 21 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, each of the 10 Win a Share of a Racehorse finalists drew one starter from race four.
1. Mad Man Hill was paired with finalist Jason Vandenehnde
2. Shadow in Red was paired with finalist Ed Bankes
3. Momas Son Byrne was paired with finalist Lisa Weaver
4. Codename Cigar Box was paired with finalist David Downs
5. Frownies Miracle was paired with finalist Robert Ieclair
6. Rockme Rollme was paired with finalist Gillian Fraser
7. American History was paired with finalist Susanne French
8. Uncle Shank A was paried with finalist Beth Dekoker
9. Sports Fan was paired with finailst Don Abbot
10. Pipewrench Charlie was paired with finalist Steven Allen
It was a very tight race to the finish line with American History coming out on top in the final strides, crowning Susanne French as the official winner of the 2023 Win a Share of a Racehorse Contest!
Standardbred Canada followed up with Susanne, or as her friends call her, Susie, to learn more about her involvement in the Standardbred industry. It seems her love for horses has spanned a lifetime.
“I was blessed when my parents started racing Standardbreds when I was 26 in the mid-70s and I paddocked for them for 21 years while working full-time as a Lab Technologist and raising three kids,” she says.
Susie then retired at 56 and began her riding career. However, through the years, Susie explains that she never lost her interest for her truest passion, harness racing.
Now, she says, “Another dream has come true! Thanks so much to Landmark17 and Standardbred Canada, I haven't stopped smiling since I won the race on Saturday evening.”
