Corey Callahan looks for a sixth consecutive leading driver championship while Dylan Davis seeks to repeat his last season title as Dover Downs re-opens for its 46th campaign this Sunday, Nov. 2.
The six-month long 2014-2015 meet continues through April 9, 2015.
Callahan wrapped up his fifth title as Dover's leading driver early, building a huge lead by mid-meet. Even after missing a full week while in Australia, Callahan closed out the season with 222 wins. Ron Pierce finished in second place with 135 wins. Allan Davis was third with 133 wins, Ross Wolfenden, fourth with 129 wins, and Vic Kirby finished fifth, with 107 wins. George Dennis (104) and Tony Morgan (101) were also triple-digit winners.
After being runner-up the previous few seasons, Dylan Davis topped all trainers with 69 trips to the winner’s circle.
Dover Downs opens the meet with an outstanding “Novemberfest of Stakes Races” featuring all eight of the prestigious Matron Stakes for two-and-three-year-olds on one card, Thursday, Nov. 6.
The track’s signature event, $350,000 Progress Pace for three-year-olds, is set for $30,000 elims on Sunday, Nov. 26. The estimated $300,000 final is on Sunday, December 7.
Also in late November, the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) freshmen trot and pacing divisions feature two weeks of $20,000 preliminaries setting up a $100,000 final in each two-year-old sections.
