O'Brien Award winning horseman Per Henriksen earned star of the card honours on Friday night during the start of Rideau Carleton Raceway's 50th anniversary celebration weekend with a training-driving triple.
Three-year-old Angus Hall fillies Fiery Manes ($2.50) and Palm Beach Bi ($2.80) won the second and fourth races for Henriksen. Fiery Manes romped to an eight and a half length victory in 1:59.2 while Palm Beach Bi prevailed by a quarter length in 2:02.3. Both fillies recorded their second win in a row. Three-year-old Yankee Glide cole Loftus Veltus ($9) later made up an 18-1/2 length deficit to win his 12th race assignment by a neck in 2:00.2 to complete Henriksen's triple.
The Norwood, Ont. resident, Canada's 2009 Horseman of the Year, has won 69 races so far this season and 806 lifetime.
Saturday is Family Fun Day at Rideau. The Ottawa oval will then host a special anniversary celebration dinner on Sunday.
