Sent postward as the longest shot on the board, Request For Parole pulled off the 22-1 upset winning the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Friday night (October 26) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Request For Parole journeyed first-over from mid-field and wore down the 9-5 favourite Witch Dali (Doug McNair), who ended up fourth after leading through fractions of :27, :56.3 and 1:25.2. Windsongmagnifique (Louis-Philippe Roy) shook loose from the pocket in the stretch and rallied outside to finish one length behind Request For Parole at the end of the 1:53 mile. Exhilarated (Jonathan Drury) closed along the pylons off a ground-saving trip to finish ahead of the favourite.
Stepping back up to the Preferred level after earning a win and two seconds at Mohawk earlier this month, Request For Parole returned $47.20 for a $2 win ticket.
The eight-year-old Badlands Hanover mare, who has hit the board in 18 of her 33 starts this year, is owned by driver Ed Hensley and trainer Ashleigh Hensley. Lifetime, she boasts 27 wins and more than $662,325 in earnings.
Marty Fine led all trainers on the 10-race card with three winners from his stable. Only One Star ($8) and Highland Dynamite ($3.60) swept the early Daily Double and Tiki Taka ($7.20) completed Fine's training triple when he won the sixth race.
