His connections had several anxious minutes after the field crossed under the wire but JJs Gazette survived a judges’ inquiry to become a repeat winner in the top
pacing class at Pompano Park.
Driver Dan Clements had the eight year old Whiteland Fella-Almahurst Gazette gelding lurking in the pocket for the same trip as seven days ago in the $12,000 purse event for winners over $10,000 lifetime. Cutting the mile again this week was Bill On The Hill A in rein to Mike Micallef through the early fractions of :26.4, :55.4 and 1:24.
After putting away the first-over bid of Ideal Conditions with Doug Brown in the bike, Bill On The Hill A was tiring and bearing out to the middle of the track. When Clements guided JJs Gazette sharply to the pylons in mid-stretch for racing room he was clearly the strongest and no violation was found against a following rival, Flexjet, in rein to Walter Ross, Jr. C A Marauder, partnered by Bruce Ranger, brushed up for the place prize from a second-over trip and Flexjet was third.
JJs Gazette is trained by David Mogan for owner Ken Freeman of Coconut Creek, FL. The career winner of over $376,000 now has 42 lifetime wins to his credit.
Fast Mark For Four Starz Dlivery
The South Florida co-feature on the October 25 card went to the gate for an $8,500 purse for winners over $7,500 lifetime and yet another pocket sitter captured the victory.
Four Starz Dlivery with Wally Hennessey in tow sat on the back of the tempo setter Dynamic Rayzer and Bruce Ranger through the fractions of :26.4, :55.2 and 1:24. In mid-stretch the first-over bid of Real Sparks and driver Dan Clements began to falter which allowed Four Starz Dlivery ample clearance to burst out and capture a life’s mark of 1:52.3 and his 40th career win. Mighty Midas, driven by Gaston Lareau, was the longest odds entrant in the field and brushed through on the inside for second at 43-1. Dynamic Ranger held third.
Four Starz Dlivery, an eight-year-old gelding by Sealed N Delivered-Flute Blue Chip, provided trainer-owner Geoff Howles formerly of Michigan and now of Pompano Beach with his first win of the new meet. Mary Gilbert, also of Pompano Beach, holds the other ownership share of the career winner of over $254,000.
When racing resumes on Wednesday evening the top trotters in South Florida lead off the daily double for a $12,000 purse. Post time is 7:05 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening at The Winter Capital Of Harness Racing with Tuesday cards added in from December through March.
