Saturday's card of harness racing in Woodstock, N.B. featured a half dozen races for its penultimate slate of the season, with the $2,000 Winners Over Pace serving as the featured dash. Nuttin But Finesse dropped back into action after a sick scratch last week, boasting fiur wins in five local outings on the season with his only loss to Maritime juggernaut Miki Shan N.
When Nuttin But Finesse was scratched last week, Whats In The Esky A took advantage of that absence with a wire-to-wire victory only his only rival, Chuck You Farlie.
Both pacers faced the gate this week, as the bookends of a five-horse field with Whats In The Esky A getting the inside advantage.
That pole position proved to be key, as Whats In The Esky A and driver Colin Decourcey made every call a winning one in a 1:58.2 mile. Nuttin But Finesse rallied from the back of the pack, pointed four-wide at the three-quarter mark by driver Mike Downey in an attempt to clear the field. Gaining on Whats In The Esky A around the far turn, Nuttin But Finesse fell just a quarter length short at the wire with Bet On Lucas (Sam Hidgin) rounding out the top trio.
Robert Kitchen trains 11-year-old Whats In The Esky A for owner Bala Stable of Skiff Lake, N.B. The gelded son of Western Edition - Rustlin A Kiss picked up his 30th career victory and lifted his bankroll to $211,413.
