Not even a broken spreader could stop 16-1 shot Toxicity from getting up to produce an attractive win mutuel during the Sunday (Oct. 25) live program at Truro Raceway.
Toxicity lined up in Post 2 for the afternoon's featured dash (Race 8), which was a $2,000 Winner-Over Pace.
Driver Ernie Laffin opted to drop the six-year-old Art Major gelding into the pocket. The pair coasted through the fractions (:29.2, :58, 1:27.3) in the garden spot behind heavy favourite Harry G (who was driven by Paul Langille).
Laffin called on his charge in the final quarter, and even though he sustained a broken spreader, Toxicity was still able to get up for a quarter-length victory in 1:57.2. Harry G had to settle for second. His Boy Elroy (Bernard McCallum) finished third.
Toxicity produced a $34.50 win mutuel for his backers. He is owned by his trainer, Carrie Saunders, along with fellow Truro resident Kurt Harper.
The victory in the feature was one of four wins for Laffin during the afternoon, as he also clicked with Crafty Xample ($5.60), Artsleek ($3.50), and Go With It ($24.50).
Rodney Gillis also had hot hands during the card, as he notched wins with Smile For Me Sara ($7.60), P H Powerful ($8.40), and R Es Aiden ($17.60).
