Faves Deliver In Maritime Breeders

Truro Raceway hosted a pair of lucrative Maritime Breeders Finals for two-year-old pacers on Friday (Oct. 25) with the public choices each finding victory lane to the delight of their supporters and connections.

Na Naa Said So delivered as expected in the $24,000 Maritime Breeders Final for two-year-old pacing fillies, but the voyage to get there was anything but ordinary.

Redmond Doucet used his rail position to place Na Naa Said So on the front end early, tripping the first timer in :28.3. Woodmere Skyroller (Corey MacPherson) tried to find a spot along the wood after a post eight start, but nary a pocket could be found so he was forced to forge on. Doucet and Na Naa Said So had no intentions of letting that rival clear, with Woodmere Skyroller getting a nose in front through a sharp :57.4 half before starting to fade around that third turn. Na Naa Said So paced confidently through a 1:26.4 third station and maintained a length-plus lead turning for home. At this point, Streakazana (Marc Campbell) was antsy in the pocket and angled out, with Woodmere Nasha (Kenny Arsenault) following that move to tip into the three path and launch a late bid. The wire came just in time for Na Naa Said So, getting there a neck ahead of Woodmere Nasha with Streakazana third.

The time of the mile was 1:56.2, besting the winner's old mark by two full seconds and setting a new divisional track record. She shaved four-fifths of a second off Truro's two-year-old filly pace mark established in last week's eliminations by Saulsbrook Ocean, who finished sixth tonight.

Trained by Robert MacLeod, Na Naa Said So (Westwardho Hanover-Goddards Art) is owned by Hugh  MacEachern of Inverness and Ali MacEachern of Truro, N.S. The filly picked up the fourth win of her rookie campaign, lifting her summary to a solid 4-4-2 from 12 starts with her earnings climbing to $41,871.

Woodmere Rollnpop was also favoured in the $22,900 Maritime Breeders Final for two-year-old pacing colts and the popular pacer didn't disappoint his backers. With trainer Clare MacDonald at the controls, Woodmere Rollnpop did all the work in a gate-to-wire performance. With fractions of :27.4, :58.3 and 1:28.1 through three quarters, a :29.2 final panel was more than enough to repel all challengers and trip the timer in 1:57.3, 1-1/2 lengths the best. Windemere Ryan (Walter Cheverie) and Here Comes Red (Marc Campbell) rallied to complete the top three.

Woodmere Rollnpop (Rollwithitharry - Shadow Dancer) picked up the eighth win of his 14-start rookie campaign for owners Morah Kerr of Greenfield, N.S. and Phonsie MacEachern of Port Hood, N.S. The lion's share of the purse pushed the gelding's bankroll to a solid $51,641.

The weekly $1,675 Winners Over Pace was won by Well Did in 1:55.4 for driver/trainer Paul Langille and owner Hubtown Horse Owners Club, Lower Onslow, N.S.
