Track Record In Tuesday Overnight

A $6,800 conditioned maiden handicap went postward on Tuesday (October 24) to relatively little fanfare, but the mile now deserves a second look, seeing as though the eight-horse field produced a new track-record mile.

The dash in question went postward as Race 5 on Fraser Downs’ Tuesday card, and it was the Richard Lancaster-trained and Serge Masse-driven Ready N Steady that etched his name into the record books at the Surrey, British Columbia oval.

After having started from Post 6, the two-year-old American Ideal gelding was all business on the engine while racing as the odds-on favourite..

Ready And Steady cut all the fractions (:27.2, :57.3, 1:26.1) and came home with a :29.1 final panel to record a one and a quarter-length victory in 1:55.2.

The 1:55.2 clocking is the new track mark for two-year-old pacing geldings. The previous record of 1:55.3 had been recorded in the fall of 2015 by Bettors Mark.

The overall two-year-old track record of 1:53.4 was paced in November of 2016 by Ima Dude.

Ready N Steady is owned by the Wild Dunes Stables (of Delta, BC) and the Westridge Stable (Langley, BC). The bay now boasts a record of 4-1-1 from seven starts and has banked $11,598.
