Schooner went wire-to-wire to win Sunday afternoon's $2,650 Winners Over pacing feature on the final card of the meet at Inverness Raceway.
Leaving from post three, driver Alex MacQuarrie sent the seven-year-old son of American Ideal to the lead and never looked back. Schooner carved out panels of :30, :58.4 and 1:28.3 en route to the 1:58.3 triumph while the favoured Surrealist, winner of the last two top class events, went first up to finish second over two lengths behind. Nephin rounded out the top three finishers.
Anthony Beaton has campaigned Schooner to eight wins in 18 starts this year. The pacer now has 54 victories lifetime and purses totalling $142,268.
Schooner gave leading driver MacQuarrie his 30th victory of the year at Inverness and a two-win edge over Redmond Doucet in the local standings.
Trainer Heather Hawkins added one more victory to her leading win count (now at 15) with Private Practice.
