Southfield Shadow rallied in deep stretch to knock off race favourite Dusty Lane Galaxy to win the Maritime Breeders Final for three-year-trotters, named the Buddy Campbell Memorial, in 2:02.3 on Saturday at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Terry Gallant did the driving for Southfield Farms Inc. of Summerside, P.E.I. as the filly notched her fourth victory of the campaign. Thane Mann is the winning trainer. Dusty Lane Galaxy (Gary Chappell) held on for second while Saulsbrook Pippa (Corey MacPherson) took the show dough in the $6,800 purse.

The other trot star on the night was Zip The Lip, who pushed his winning streak to six in a row. Brian MacPhee was able to work out the trip in the $1,850 Open Handicap to keep the streak alive for trainer Don Sweet and his co-owner Orville Willis of O’Leary. The mile was 2:01.3 over a track rated "good" with a two second variant. Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass) was second with Frill Seeker (Kenny Arsenault) third.

Astor found racing room at the head of the lane and blasted through the stretch to take the evening’s $2,550 Preferred Pace in 1:57.2. Jason Hughes did the driving for Foxyhall Racing stable of Summerside. The victory put Hughes into a tie in the top driver standings with Marc Campbell with each pilot at 100 victories at Charlottetown. All Turain (Mike Stevenson) finished second with Astor’s stable-mate Narragansett (Mark Bradley) completing the triactor.

Gary Chappell, Corey MacPherson and Hughes all enjoyed hat-tricks on the card.
