Grayland Bling, a winner of the Maritime Breeders Futurity final at two, survived a first-over journey to capture the $8,481 final for three-year-old trotters Saturday over a track rated ‘good’ and three seconds off at Charlottetown Driving Park

.

The chestnut son of Black River-Sturdy Faith and trainer/driver Danny Romo got away third from Post 7 while Dunmore Chip (Edward Smallwood) leapt to an early two length lead from the inside post during a :31.1 first quarter. As the field headed to the 1:03.1 half, Grayland Bling, who finished fourth in the single elimination last week, moved first-up and was within reach of the leader by three-quarters in 1:34.3. The 3-1 second choice matched strides with Dunmore Chip in the stretch and managed to pull ahead for the victory in 2:06.1.

West River Tigger (Clare MacDonald) came on for second finishing a half-length behind forcing Dunmore Chip to settle for third. Elim winner and fan favourite Maple Leaf Quix (Kenny Arsenault) broke stride at the start of the race taking himself out of contention.

Paul Gray of Pugwash, N.S. purchased the winner of seven races in 16 starts this year and nearly $20,000 at the Atlantic Classic sale for $5,000. To date, Grayland Bling has visited the winner’s circle 11 times and has earned $42,567.
