Dismissed at 32-1, Five Stars found the Lightning Lane in time, poured through and pulled off the upset in the co-feature on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
As the field turned for home in the $16,527 conditioned trot, Five Stars was buried behind horses and figured to be racing for a cheque. But as other contenders fanned outside, Dave Palone pointed Five Stars to the suddenly available Lightning Lane. The four-year-old daughter of Walner-Superstar Hanover responded beautifully, overtaking the leader, His Glory, and downing him by a half length in 1:56.1. Midnight Nolan rallied wide to complete the ticket.
Jason Shaw trains Five Stars, who was returning to Lasix after two races without it, for All For Luck Stable and Misty Acres.
In Thursday’s companion feature, also a $16,527 conditioned trot, 1-5 favourite Stardust Volo (pictured above) quarter-poled to the top for Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. and defeated Butter N Syrup by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.3, with Somethintobelievein third. Ron Burke conditions the three-year-old daughter of Muscle Hill-Sterling Volo for Greg Luther Racing LLC and Patrick Hoopes.
Wrenn collected four wins and Aaron Merriman three on the 13-race card.
Friday’s program at The Meadows features an $845.60 carryover in the Pick 5 (race 9). First post is 12:45 p.m.
