Xterra Goes The Extra Distance

Xterra went the distance to take the featured $2,950 one and a quarter mile event at Hippodrome Quebec on Saturday for driver Pierre Luc Roy and owner-trainer Cynthia Gendron

Nine-year-old pacer Xterra cleared the lead from Post 8 at the opening quarter and turned back a challenge from Chilito Hanover (Pascal Berube) past the half before cruising to a three and three-quarter length victory in 2:32.4. Quick Drummer (Mario Charron) followed in the pocket to place while Mac Only Vp (Melanie Plourde) came on for third.

Xterra paid $16.90 to win as the 7-1 third choice. The gelded son of Village Jiffy-Mellisa Fra earned his first win of the year in four starts and is set to compete in the fourth race on Quebec’s closing day tomorrow. The winner of 22 races lifetime has banked over $85,000.

The 2010 racing season at Hippodrome de Quebec will wrap up on Sunday with the 101st presentation of the track's 10-lap signature event, Le 5 Milles.
