Three-year-old trotting filly Scarlet Patti successfully defended her title in the Maritime Breeders with a wire-to-wire effort in the $8,950 Blair Andrew Memorial on Saturday night at Charlottetown Driving Park

.

Scarlet Patti left from Post 5 with trainer-driver Darryl MacLean and put up a :30.3 opening quarter with Miss Toria Ridge (Kenny Arsenault) in the pocket and Diamond Mine (Corey MacPherson) positioned third.

Diamond Mine launched his attack after the first quarter and applied pressure the rest of the way. It was a three-horse breakaway down the backstretch with Scarlet Patti leading the way to the half in 1:04 and then three-quarters in 1:25. She gave it her all down the stretch and managed to hold off Diamond Mine for the three-quarter-length victory in 2:08.3 over a sloppy track. Miss Toria Ridge was third.

Scarlet Patti paid $4.80 to win as the bettor's choice. Gordon MacLean of Winsloe, P.E.I. owns the daughter of Pjs Nabby-Scarlet Nite, who boasts a sophomore record of 9-3-1 in 13 starts. She has banked $25,585 this year and $61,216 lifetime.
