Misster Wilker made a decisive quarter-pole move and converted it to her second straight win in the Donna Dunn Memorial Series for juvenile pacing fillies Thursday, October 22 at the Meadows.
The series’ second leg was contested over four divisions, with Dovetail, Hello Great Mate and O Lucky Me capturing the other $12,000 splits. The $20,000 (added) Dunn final is set for next Thursday.
Misster Wilker was strong on the point when Dick Stillings moved her early. She scored in 1:55.3, a career best and fastest of the four divisions. Ideal Observation was a clear second, five lengths in arrears, with Kenna Lyn third.
Janet Irvine trains the homebred daughter of Towners Big Guy--Mary Demando for Elaine Konesky.
Dovetail also became a two-time winner in the series when she spurted to a one and a half-length lead for trainer/driver Mike Micallef, then just held off the late charge of Imperial Rival to down the rival by a neck in 1:56.1. Team Spirit finished third.
The partnership of Micallef, Fink, Grundy and Prince Lee Acres owns the daughter of Dragon Again--Western Dove, who has won six of 10 lifetime starts.
Elsewhere on the card, Anais Kicker captured a five-eighths-mile dash in 1:08.1, a track record for the distance. Dave Palone drove the four-year-old gelded son of Arturo--Anais Hanover for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Palone drove three winners on the 17-race card while Burke enjoyed a four-bagger.
