It was a big moment for all involved when Always About Katey captured her $200,000 Indiana Gold Series Final in 1:53.3 this past Saturday at Indiana Downs, but the victory also proved to be a milestone feat for her sire, Always A Virgin.
Always About Katey's win helped push Always A Virgin's first-crop progeny earnings to over $1.25 million, making him the all-time richest single-season sire of two-year-olds in Indiana history (surpassing Panspacificflight's 2010 Indiana first-crop progeny earnings of $1,203,917).
In Saturday's colt division, although the race was won by River Sport (by Red River Hanover) in 1:51.3, sons of Always A Virgin chipped in toward their sire's totals by finishing 2-3-4-5.
The earnings of Always A Virgin's two-year-olds also place him second in North America on the list of first-crop pacing sires, trailing only Somebeachsomewhere in that category.
