Swooping from fourth over passing three-quarters, National Debt dashed past pacesetter Imsporty and Toot Toot N to take the $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Oct. 21 in 1:54.
Driver Robert Shepherd got away eighth with National Debt while Imsporty pressed Brocks Fortune for the lead heading to a :27.2 opening quarter. Imsporty cleared the lead heading into the far turn first time while Boomboom Ballykeel, parked from the start, advanced uncovered to within a half length of the lead passing a :56 half.
National Debt entered the two-wide flow fourth over entering the second circuit. Though, as Boomboom Ballykeel faltered first over in the backstretch, Toot Toot N, from second over, tipped three wide with National Debt following suit past three-quarters in 1:24.3. Toot Toot N drew within a length of leader Imsporty turning into the stretch while National Debt, closing wider into third, charged past late-leader Toot Toot N to win by three-quarter lengths. Imsporty faded to third.
A seven-year-old stallion by Allamerican Native, National Debt won his 11th race from 28 starts this season and his 38th from 129 overall, earning $438,831. Colin Johnson conditions the $7.30 winner for owner Francois Morin.
