Mind Boggling, with Anthony Napolitano in the sulky, pulled off an upset in the $30,000 Open Handicap Pace for fillies and mares Wednesday, October 21 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

The five-year-old Cambest mare, trained by Ross Croghan, got a third-over trip from Napolitano and nipped both Dr Nabrinsky (Ryan Anderson) and Twin Oakes Tess (Larry Stalbaum) at the wire. Time of the mile was 1:52.3.

Esmeralda Semalu, driven by Joe Pavia Jr., took the eight-horse field to the opening split in :26.4 before the new leader at the half was Dingle Bay (Greg Grismore) with Mind Boggling sitting seventh third-over.

Mind Boggling, a 20-1 shot returning $43.20 for a deuce, sat behind Sportsfancy (Jason Bartlett) on the outside until halfway through the turn with Dingle Bay still leading the way at the three-quarter mark, timed in 1:23.3. It was here when Napolitano went three deep and remained on the outside right to the wire.

The $15,000 winner’s share pushed the career earnings of Mind Boggling to more than $504,000. Mind Boggling is owned by Let It Ride Stables, Inc., and Mentally Stable, Inc., both of Delray Beach, Florida.

Bartlett, North America’s leading driver, won two of the first three races of the 15-race card Wednesday evening. One of those wins came with Mr Hallowell, who won in 1:50.2 in a $30,000 claiming race. Christopher Carrubba trains this five-year-old Bullvons Dream gelding.
