Last week's first-round Ontario Autumn Series winners, Sheza Gamer ($7.70) and SG Alexia ($14.90), beat the favourites in their respective $8,500 second-round Ontario Autumn Series events on Wednesday (Oct. 20) at Flamboro Downs.

Following her 1:57.1 first-round score, Sheza Gamer took top speed honours again this week with a 1:57.3 victory, the third of her career. The sophomore daughter of Sportswriter and Cams Cupid strode to the lead from post 2, seating Best Watch Out through a :28.1 first quarter before backing the half off to :58.4. Up the backstretch, she faced a first-over challenge from 6-5 favourite Unity, but dug deep to keep that one at bay through the stretch by a neck. Best Watch Out finished third.

Jason Ryan once again drove Sheza Gamer, a Home Stretch Holdings Inc. homebred, to victory for trainer Jerry Duford.

The second division saw SG Alexia and owner-trainer-driver Sylvain Grenier draft behind a hotly contested pace before emerging off the home turn to prevail by a neck in 1:58.1. The three-year-old Betterthancheddar-Western Mustang filly secured the pocket behind Jemaxpos Rockstar, who turned aside a first-over challenge from Lady Libby and a three-wide push from Stonebridge Search through the first six furlongs in 1:27.4 before breaking stride off the home turn. When Jemaxpos Rockstar faltered, SG Alexia inherited a clear path up the pegs to take the lead and outsprint Stonebridge Search to the winning post. Einhorn Is Finkle, the even-money favourite, fanned wide to finish third, missing by only three-quarters of a length.

In the evening's $13,000 Preferred 2 Pace, Groovy Joe ($3.90) took the short route to victory, protecting pole position and controlling every step of a 1:53.1 mile. Paul MacKenzie drove the four-year-old son of Roll With Joe to a 1-1/2-length win over Mikey Camden, who stalked from the pocket for the entire journey. Trainer Blake MacIntosh owns the 15-time winner in partnership with the Hutt Racing Stable, Ozzie MacKay and HoofBid Racing.
