Brief Interlude was sent to the lead and paced away from all challengers as her driver Zach Conway scored a career milestone with his first lifetime win Sunday afternoon (Oct. 20) at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway.

The 19-year-old Bonshaw driver’s first lifetime win had been eluding him for the summer, but Brief Interlude came to play Sunday in the fourth race of afternoon. Conway and Brief Interlude left well from Post 2 to position the mare on the lead and lay down splits of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:29.4 before scoring by two lengths in 2:00.3. The five-year-old Brandons Cowboy mare is owned and trained by Zach’s father, Paul Conway of Bonshaw.

The Wade Sorrie Stable was razor sharp, as it swept the top two classes of the card. JJ Powerball, who was in line to Jason Hughes, won the $2,600 top class by a length in 1:57 (he defeated race favourite and pacesetter Nogreatmischief, who was driven by Walter Cheverie. Third place went to Varadero Hanover (Ken Murphy). A four-year-old son of Image Of Dawn, JJ Powerball is owned by Tammy Collings of Hazel Brook along with Austin Sorrie of Ontario.

Pictonian Storm won the ‘back-up class’ for owner Collings and trainer Sorrie. Murphy subbed in as driver in the $2,200 event and rallied from last to score in 1:58.2 over Twice As Bright (David Dowling) and Painted Desert (Corey MacPherson).

Trainer Jaycob Sweet recorded a double on the program, as Badlands Giovanna circled the field in a tight finish in Race 2 in 2:01.2 for driver Hughes, and Shiftyn Georgie upset later in the program for driver Dale Spence in 1:57.4.

Dowling made three trips to the winner’s circle to continue his reign as leading driver in Prince County. The Warren Grove driver found the wire first with Oh No (2:00.3) for trainer Colleen Chappell of Breadalbane, Phil Dorleans in 1:58.3 for Donald Milligan of Tyne Valley, and Cal Hanover (2:01.2) from the Earl Watts stable of Hampshire.
