Perfect West Meadows Record For 'Sophio'

Sophio Hanover is now a perfect three-for-three with the track record title at West Meadows Raceway after winning the $2,100 Open Pace at the new Regina half-miler on Sunday

Sophio Hanover and driver Kirk Rogers sat third at the rail through fractions of :29, :58.1 and 1:28.1 in the seventh race before coming on to score the half-length victory in a new track record time of 1:59.1 over pocket-sitter Tajwon (Richard Remillard). Pacesetter Play On Top (Greg Manning) finished one and a quarter lengths back in third. His winning time was just one-fifth of a second off his lifetime mark.

The four-year-old son of The Panderosa is trained by Shawn Worthen for owners Debra McInnes and Samantha Tamblyn, both of Yorkton, Sask. The Yorkton ship in now boasts a record of 8-7-3 in 22 seasonal starts.

One race earlier, Iza Bin Freezin took the featured $4,000 pace for the top eight money earning two and three-year-olds in the province this year in 2:01.3 by one and three-quarter lengths. G Gs Dominator (Tyler Redwood) and Ambers Best (Robert Baxter) finished second and third.

The Betty Tracey homebred is trained and driven by Edward Tracey. Unraced at two, the sophomore son of Glorious Scooter is two-for-three at the West Meadows meet and six-for-12 on the year.

In other action, Tyler Redwood scored a training triple on the 10-race card with Julianas Girl ($2.80), Judges Discretion ($14.70) and Bubblemint ($9.50).
