Dan Davis of Peterborough, Ont. has emerged victorious in the inaugural COSA Fantasy Stable contest.
Brought to you by the Central Ontario Standardbred Association, and administered by TROT Magazine and Standardbred Canada, the fantasy pool was based on the total earnings of a selected group of Ontario sired two- and three-year-olds, ten per cent (10%) of the OSS earnings from four groups of sires, and five per cent (5%) of OSS earnings from four groups of trainers and drivers. The contest ran from June 26, 2020 through the end of the OSS Super Finals on Saturday, Oct. 17.
For the purposes of the fantasy bankroll, the winners (horses only) of the 2020 OSS Grassroots and Super Finals each received a $50,000 contest bankroll bonus.
Bolstered by horses the likes of Tattoo Artist ($604,153), Karma Seelster ($191,371) and Up And Ready ($190,752), Davis' Team Davis stable accrued a total bankroll of $2,824,423. That total edged the stable of Bill Beacham by less than $4,300. Beacham of Calabogie, Ont. finished second with a bankroll of $2,820,134.
Rounding out the top five in the contest were Calvin Larkin's Larkin Stable ($2,734,584), Jeff Crawford's Parlay Player ($2,725,501) and Glenn Scargill's Torbay Stables ($2,707,925).
The first prize in the contest for Davis is a suite at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a $1,500 food voucher and $100 betting vouchers* for 25 people in the suite. Beacham picks up a $500 betting voucher, while Larkin wins a $400 betting voucher, Crawford gets a $300 betting voucher and Scargill receives a $200 betting voucher. Those that finished 6th through 20th get a $50 betting voucher.
