Trot Insider has learned that three-time O’Brien Award winning driver Jody Jamieson will be in action at Truro Raceway this coming Sunday (October 23).
"Ryan Ellis asked me to come and drive his filly [Elektra Express] as he is on call with Air Canada and Marc Campbell has another filly that he trains as well in there," Jamieson told Trot Insider. "I'm not too busy on Sundays and never too busy to head to the Maritimes to race for friends and family."
Jamieson, who is a Truro native, is in the midst of another solid season in the race bike. Racing primarily on the Woodbine Entertainment Group circuit, Jamieson has faced the starting gate 1,418 times so far this season and has made 201 trips to the winner’s circle. His charges have finished second on 218 occasions, notched 186 third-place finishes, and have earned more than $4.1 million in purses.
Fans in attendance Sunday have the potential of seeing Jamieson in action almost 10 times, as the condition sheet features nine races, including the Maritime Breeders finals for both two-year-old pacing colts and two-year-old pacing fillies. The Nova Scotia Stake for three-year-old pacing colts will also be featured. Entries and declarations close for the Sunday card on Thursday (Oct. 20) at 10:00 a.m.
"I've also been given the opportunity to drive Darren Crowe's horse in the boys' final of the Maritime Breeders [Mighty Cowboy] and I've already had lots of people message me about driving their horses," continued Jamieson. "I'm excited to see who I get to drive and hopefully the weather is nice on Sunday."
Jamieson has made more than 7,400 trips to the winner’s circle during his career, which has seen him steer his mounts to more than $117-million in purse earnings and maintain a UDR of .297. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the talented reinsman prior to the card with a meet and greet in the grandstand.
The Sunday card marks the culmination of a big weekend for harness racing in Nova Scotia. On Friday, Truro hosts the 2016 Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Select Yearling Sale. The auction starts at 5:00 p.m. in the MacMillan Show Center at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Truro, with yearling viewing starting at 11 a.m.
In addition, the Truro Harness Horse Owners Association and RDMD Refrigeration of Halifax have join forces to present Double J Racing merchandise giveaways to the fans in attendance.
