Rideau Carleton Raceway presented a 15-race program Thursday evening and teamster John MacDonald put on a driving clinic thanks to his seven-win performance.
MacDonald, who recently watched his lifetime earnings climb past the $13 million mark, finished last in the opener but everything from that point on came up aces for the horseman from Russell, Ontario.
He rolled Coastal Flyer to a 2:02 score in Race 2 and followed it up with a wire-to-wire win with Done Fooln Witcha (1:56.1) in Race 3. He then completed the natural hat trick by taking Race 4 with Cloverdale (1:59.4).
MacDonald returned to victory lane in Race 6 with Victory Nut (1:57.4) and came right back to capture Race 7 with The Steelman (1:54.2) in front-stepping fashion. Later he scored with Merited Victory, who romped to a 19-length triumph in a time of 1:58.1 in Race 12, before taking home top prize in Race 13 with Rocket Gabriel (1:57).
The big night at the office pushed MacDonald’s yearly win total to 190 while his lifetime number grew to 2,520. He’s managed to bank more than $1 million in earnings for each of the last seven seasons, and this year marks the ninth consecutive year he’s won at least 100 races.
