Fancy Fanny drove clear in the final quarter for a four-length victory in the $30,000 BC-bred Stakes for four-year-old pacing mares at Desert Park on a Sunday, Oct. 18 card shortened by an accident.
Fancy Fanny, the 6-5 second choice, won an early drag race with 3-5 choice Ulla Law (Nick Roland) for command, and she set the fractions of :27.3, :57.4 and 1:26 with the chalk on her back and their other two rivals strung out behind them. Fancy Fanny then separated from Ulla Law, pacing home in :29.1 for driver Dave Hudon to complete the mile over the track rated “good” in 1:55.1. Custards Rendition (Scott Knight) was third.
The winning daughter of Beren Hanover-Luna Dancer did not race at two and made one start at three but has been a sharp four-year-old, winning six times in 28 starts and earning $53,603. Richard Lancaster trains Fancy Fanny for Tom Wood of Chilliwack, B.C. She paid $4.60 to win.
An accident occurred in the following race, the fifth, when Dillon James (Don Ross) fell while racing fifth on the inside. Wits Beach (Scott Knight) and Firm Ringo (Carson Abbott), racing behind him, were unable to avoid the collision. The race concluded with Thereallkents the winner. The final two races on the card were subsequently cancelled. Updates on those involved will be provided here when made available.
