Despite taking last week off, Kings County reclaimed his throne in the $25,000 Open Trot on Tuesday (Oct. 18) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.
Leaving from post four, the six-year-old son of Muscle Hill eased his way to the top. Although two-wide through the :27.4 opening quarter, Kings County gained control of the field without hesitation. As the 1-1 betting favourite, he set the pace for the remainder of the mile. Kings County reached the half in :56.1 and three-quarters in 1:24.1 with Tyler Smith behind the lines. Rounding out of the final turn, Kings County opened up by four lengths and stopped the clock in 1:54.
Mission Accepted (Chris Page) was second with Magical Muscle Man (Mitchell Cushing) finishing third.
The win marked the second Open victory in a row for Kings County. With lifetime earnings just over $435,000, the horse has hit the board 18 of 28 starts this year. Nine of those starts tallied as victories. Stacey Van Huizen conditions Kings County for Thestable Kings County group.
Live racing will resume Wednesday (Oct. 19) at Dayton Raceway with first post at 4 p.m. Free programs are always available online.
