The betting public didn’t have much respect for Outlaw Imahotvixen in Thursday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at Flamboro Downs, but that didn’t stop the mare from rallying to a narrow victory in the featured tilt.

Sent off as the longest shot on the board in the seven-mare affair, Outlawimahotvixen got away second for driver Billy Davis, Jr. while Ride Away Shark shot to the top and carved out fractions of :27.3, :56.4 and 1:25.2. Azure Seelster applied first-over pressure to the leader in the middle stages of the mile, but she eventually backed away.

Davis found clearance in the lane with the Jodie Cullen trainee, and the mare’s final quarter clocked in :31 was enough to earn her the victory by a head over race favourite Significance in 1:56.3. Ride Away Shark weakened late and had to settle for third prize.

Sent off at odds of 11-1 for owners Jodie and Ron Cullen of Dundas, ON, the five-year-old daughter of Blue Burner-Fox Valley Cherish won for the fifth time this season and for the 19th time in her career. The lion’s share of the purse pushed her earnings over $185,000.
