On Monday, October 17, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed an order which officially opened the licensing-application period for gaming operators seeking video lottery terminals in the state

.

An article by The Oxford Press has quoted Rob Nichols, a spokesman for Gov. Kasich, as saying that the impact for local communities has been valued at $2 million per month, per track.

“For every month the VLTs are not online that is $2 million per month per track that is not going to the community,” Nichols was quoted as saying.

It's not just the state government which is champing at the bit to get VLTs up and running at Ohio raceways.

“It (the legalization of VLTs) puts us in a position to compete, and it is something we needed to do even a couple years ago,” said Keith Nixon, of the Nixon family who co-owns the Lebanon Raceway with the Carlo family.
